Random poetry: Cages

I saw a bird encaged.
I told it to be free,
But though I screamed and though I cried,
It listened not to me.

I saw my weary soul.
I told it to be free,
But though I screamed and though I cried,
It listened not to me.

My voice is all too weak,
Lord, mine has not the pow'r
To break the cage and cheer the soul;
And make the weary free.
